Nippy November
Hi everyone!
The clocks have changed and with it comes a nip in the air. Breathing in the first gulps of fresh, cool air on a November morning is a wonderful sensation however. So let’s embrace this time of bunkering down and warming ourselves around fires.
Welcome to Claire!
We warmly welcome Claire to the Chesterblade Hills team this month. Claire is based in Frome and will be helping us move forward with the Green Heart, Wild Camping and Nature Gift. She’ll be spending some time developing our connections with the health and wellbeing sector and eco tourism, and linking in with local businesses to incorporate nature connection into their working practices. If you have any ideas you’d like to explore regarding this, get in touch with Claire at info@chills.org.uk

Hare today…
Ed stumbled upon a young leverett hiding in the long grass when he was re-mulching around the oak saplings we planted last year. The oaks are doing well and clearly the hares are loving the area as well. The mother hare was lolloping around nearby at the time. Late flowering wildflowers around our ponds have been looking bright against the autumnal fading of colour.

Energise Wellbeing Studio
All our studios at our renovated Chesterblade Hills yard are now fully occupied and each month we’ll feature one of them. So a big welcome firstly to Energise Wellbeing Studio, who offer a unique and private experience of wellbeing with small classes, courses and 121 training. The studio aims to ensure you get the most out of your training with a greater attention to detail from their instructors. If you would like to sign up to classes and courses please message them via Facebook www.facebook.com/energisewellbeing or through their website www.energisewellbeing.com

Tree Planting Photoshoot
We hosted a photoshoot on the farm recently. We’re involved in a government run woodland planting project and a campaign is due to be launched to encourage other farmers and landowners to plant more trees. A whole team of make-up artists, models, costume designers, photographers and various production assistants arrived here and were joined by a government department representative and the Forestry Commission. We’re planning on planting around 80,000 trees over the next 3 years to help sequester carbon as well as add to our mosaic of habitat. Most of the team came from London for the day and loved being out in the countryside in such a wonderful Somerset landscape.

Summer 2022
Bookings are coming in for next summer at our Wild Camping and Green Heart gathering space as people increasingly want to gather in natural world spaces instead of flying or driving for miles when we have so much beauty on our doorsteps. Weddings and other life event celebrations are also booking us up, so get in touch to get something booked if you want to experience the tranquility of the landscape here next year with your friends and family…

The Cosmic Calendar
The Reed Celtic Month starts on 28 October and ends the 24 November. In the past, the reed was used to make swift-flying arrow shafts that killed both enemies and game. In this way the plant was linked to the season of death and sacrifice, in which trees shed their leaves and the energy of nature became more introspective. Many early musical instruments also used the reed to create a haunting sound that has been connected to rites for the dead and the summoning of spirits.
